Content

Danish cord, an incredibly strong 3 ply paper rope, gathered attention after WW11 in Denmark and Europe for its unique woven aesthetic appearance, ease of production and longevity. It’s difficult to replicate by machine, so is generally only seen on high end furniture handcrafted by makers.

On this course, you will be provided with a pre-made stool in one of the wood species, Ash, Oak or Walnut. On your first day, you will be tutored on how the stool frame was made, in case you wish to make the stool outside of the course. You will then prepare and prep a stool frame for finishing, and then finally get hands on experience of applying a finish to another stool in preparation for the Danish cord upholstery.

Our tutors will demonstrate Danish cord weaving patterns to the group, and then focus on a pattern which you will be weaving on your own stool frames. The remainder of the weekend will then be taken up with the hands on experience of weaving your own Danish cord seats.

At the end of the weekend, you will have a high quality woven Danish cord stool, which will be a fine addition to complement any home interior. Not only that, but you’ll have the skill of Danish cord weaving to take forward to your future furniture projects!
